This page explains what personal data this website and I collect, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: there are no forms, no newsletter and no advertising trackers here. If you message me on WhatsApp, I see what you send. The site uses Google Analytics to count visits, and you can turn that off below.
Who I am
SEO Redcar (shown on the site as #1 SEO Redcar Expert) is run by Jack Ivison, a local SEO consultant based in Redcar. For UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), I'm the controller of the personal data described on this page.
To ask anything about your data, or to use any of the rights below, message me on WhatsApp.
When you message me on WhatsApp
Tapping a WhatsApp button opens a chat with me and fills in a short message. Nothing is sent until you press send.
When you message me I can see your WhatsApp name, your phone number, your profile photo (depending on your WhatsApp settings) and anything you send, such as your website address or details about your business.
- Why: to reply to you, look at your website if you ask me to, and, if we work together, to run that work.
- Lawful basis: taking steps you ask for before a contract, then the contract itself; otherwise my legitimate interest in replying to people who contact me.
- How long: I keep chats while we're in touch or working together, and delete them within two years of our last contact unless I need something longer for tax or legal reasons.
WhatsApp is run by WhatsApp LLC, part of Meta. Messages are end-to-end encrypted, and WhatsApp's privacy policy covers how it handles your account.
Google Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand how it's used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are (town or city level), what device and browser they use, how they found the site, and how many people tap a WhatsApp button. I use this to see which guides are useful and to improve the site. It doesn't tell me who you are.
- Cookies:
_gaand_ga_5DYLE3RW4F, set by this site for Google Analytics. Both last up to two years. - Who receives it: Google, which processes it for me. Google keeps this data for the retention period set in my Analytics account (no longer than 14 months). See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Lawful basis: my legitimate interest in measuring and improving the site, with a simple way for you to say no.
Turn analytics off
Use this button to stop Google Analytics running on this site in this browser. Your choice is saved in your browser, so you'll need to choose again on another device or if you clear your browser data.
Analytics is on in this browser.
You can also block cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on, which works on every site that uses Google Analytics.
The map in the footer
The footer shows a map embedded from Google Maps. When it loads, your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and may set its own cookies. Google's privacy policy covers this; I don't receive any of that data.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver pages quickly and protect the site from attacks, Cloudflare processes technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser and the pages you request. I don't use this to identify you. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
What I don't do
- No contact forms, newsletter sign-ups or accounts.
- No advertising or remarketing cookies.
- I don't sell or rent your data to anyone.
Data outside the UK
Google, Meta and Cloudflare may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. They rely on safeguards recognised by UK law, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- tell you what personal data I hold about you and send you a copy
- correct anything that's wrong
- delete your data
- stop or limit how I use it, including objecting to analytics
- give you your data in a format you can take elsewhere
Just message me on WhatsApp. It's free, and I'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this page
If how I use data changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
